That\u2019s why it\u2019s hard to open a door from the side near the hinges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also important: <strong>If force is applied exactly at the pivot point<\/strong>, torque is <strong>zero<\/strong>. There\u2019s no moment arm, so no rotation is created.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Only the Tangential Force Affects Torque<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Every force has two components:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Tangential (perpendicular)<\/strong> to the radius \u2192 contributes to torque<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Radial (parallel)<\/strong> to the radius \u2192 does <strong>not<\/strong> affect torque<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is why direction matters: only the <strong>tangential component<\/strong> of force causes rotation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Multiple Forces, Net Torque, and Equilibrium<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When more than one force acts on an object, each generates its own torque.
