Don\u2019t worry. It gets better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Confusing Birth of the Pentalobe Screwdriver Standard<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The confusion doesn\u2019t stop there, though. In <strong>2009<\/strong>, Apple launched the pentalobe screw, and that\u2019s about all they did. There was <strong>no regulatory sizing<\/strong>, so the brains at <strong>iFixit<\/strong> reverse engineered the screw and made a driver to work with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since it was similar in size to a Torx T2, they called it a <strong>P2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After they did this, Apple released sizing information and revealed that iFixit\u2019s P2 was <strong>actually a size 1<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was after all this commotion that <strong>Wiha<\/strong> released their set of pentalobes (to Apple standards), so their <strong>PL1<\/strong> is actually the same size as iFixit\u2019s P2. Did you get all that?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To keep things simple, they decided to stick with <strong>Wiha\u2019s sizing standard<\/strong>, PL1\u2013PL6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why Use a Pentalobe Precision Screwdriver?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>So now that we have sizes under our belt, the ultimate question is: <strong>Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why would someone need a five-pointed precision screwdriver?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The answer is simple: <strong>Apple.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not the fruit (though we suppose you could use a pentalobe screwdriver for digging out apple seeds).
